TV on the Radio's Kyp Malone. [28 Jun 2009|11:04pm] Welcome to the Rain Machine By Nic Coury Kyp Malone is dressed in all white. His big beard, peppered with gray hairs, matches the length of his giant Afro. Malone strums a gold electric guitar on the outdoor stage at Henry Miller Library in Big Sur. His lisp-y, light screams ring out over the over-driven guitar. About 40 people watch as they sprawl out on brightly colored blankets on the lawn. Malone is best known for fronting the soulful alt-rock band TV on the Radio. His solo project, Rain Machine, releases its debut album in this Fall. "This place is so beautiful," commented Malone on stage, referring to the lack of outdoors in Brooklyn where he resides. "It's not my everyday (here), so I'm keep talking about it." Though TV on the Radio keeps him fairly busy, Malone says Rain Machine started out from writing songs after moving the New York and not having anyone to play with. "For me, it's keeping music as a hobby and not only as a vocation," he says following his Big Sur set. "If people like it and are willing to listen, than that's awesome." 1 Airplane| Take Flight

If you're reading this, please do it yourself and pass it along. They can be really specific or really general. So in no particular order: 25 Things I Fuckin' Love 1.) Good, fresh-ground and fresh-pulled espresso. 2.) the old Volvos. 3.) Jazz music. (Miles Davis - Porgy and Bess is my fav.) 4.) Weezer, 5.) Watching the fish for hours at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. 6.) Anything Big Sur, especially Henry Miller Library and Deetjen's. 7.) The literature of Samuel Beckett. 8.) Eating breakfast for dinner. 9.) Waffles. 10.) Sierra Nevada Porter. 11.) Wild Turkey on the rocks with a lime. 12.) Film noir, French new wave cinema and horror films. 13.) CHEESE! especially sharp, white cheddar. 14.) Working as a camp counselor at Pico Blanco. 15.) Shooting Kodak slide film. 16.) Converse Chuck Taylor All-Star sneakers. 17.) Glasses. 18.) Swimming in the ocean. 19.) The sea lions barking on the wharf. 20.) Facial hair, mainly sweet mustaches. 21.) Ironing and folding clothes. 22.) My old electric typewriter. 23.)
